STRUCTURAL and ERDC/CERL Team
Win ECS IE&EE NET Award

BALTIMORE, MD (Jan. 10, 2011) – STRUCTURAL– a specialty-contracting firm that combines specialty construction and maintenance services with proprietary technology to solve engineering and construction challenges – has been selected, along with the team at the Engineer Research and Development Center Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC/CERL), to receive The Electrochemical Society’s (ECS) 2011 Industrial Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Engineering (IE & EE) Division New Electrochemical Technology (NET) Award.

Offered every two years, this award is given to only one technology. The competition is worldwide and the accomplishment is the highest level award ever won for electro-osmotic pulse (EOP) technology. Paul Noyce, Principal Engineer of STRUCTURAL, commented, "This award is an exceptional achievement and an honor in the continual acceptance of the EOP technology."

EOP offers the only effective waterproofing solution to the traditional “trench and drain” approach of positive-side waterproofing because it is the only technology that mitigates water intrusion problems from the interior side of the structure without incurring excavation costs. Lack of excavation means EOP is optimal for retrofit and historic structure applications. In the case of historic buildings, the structure must be preserved in its original condition without altering the foundation. ERDC researchers have developed dewatering points that are external to the structure and can be used in both existing and new construction.

About ECS
ECS (www.electrochem.org) was founded in 1902 as an international nonprofit, educational organization concerned with a broad range of phenomena relating to electrochemical and solid-state science and technology. The organization has more than 8,000 scientists and engineers in over 70 countries worldwide that hold individual membership, as well as roughly 100 corporations and laboratories that hold corporate membership.

About U.S. Army ERDC
The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is one of the most diverse engineering and scientific research organizations in the world.  The ERDC conducts R&D in support of the soldier, military installations, and the Corps of Engineers civil works mission, as well as for other federal agencies, state and municipal authorities, and with U.S. industry through innovative work agreements.
