Commitment Sustainability and Green Construction

Sustainability and a commitment to our environment are important to the people of Structural Group. We believe it is a way of conducting business. As a leader in the concrete repair, post-tensioning and the chimney construction industries, Structural Group employs several approaches and strategies to advance sustainable construction practices and reduce our carbon footprint, while having a positive impact on our environment.

  • Structural Preservation Systems is involved in restoration, retrofit, repair and strengthening projects, which extend the serviceable life of structures and the use of fewer resources.
  • VSL promotes the use of post-tensioning. Compared to conventionally reinforced structures, post-tensioning uses less steel and concrete, while offering more usable space in a structure, while reducing the consumption of raw materials. In addition, a majority of the steel used in post-tensioning is recycled.
  • Pullman Power is building chimneys to reduce emissions at at our nation's power plants, which has a positive impact on the environment as fewer emissions are put into the atmosphere and the chimneys support the more efficient burning of coal.

Our branch offices also employ green practices such as the use of recycled paper, reduction in printed e-mails and travel as well as a commitment to online or electronic training. We are committed to educating our employees about green best practices.

Structural Group’s efforts extend into our industry leadership positions. We encourage trade associations to explore green building practices and members of our team are involved in the American Concrete Institue's Strategic Development Council's green initiative, "Concrete's Role in Sustainable Development."  In addition, we encourage our vendors to demonstrate green practices and constantly challenge them to find ways to employ greener solutions.
