As part of Silicon Valley Clean Water’s (SVCW) multi-year initiative to upgrade its wastewater conveyance and treatment infrastructure, critical pump station headers connecting to a gravity pipeline were rehabilitated.  STRUCTURAL played a key role in the renewal of a 33-inch welded steel header pipe at the Menlo Park Pump Station.

The existing pipe showed visible corrosion and significant wall thickness loss, posing a threat to system integrity and ongoing operations. To maintain essential services and avoid any disruptions, it was critical that repairs be completed without bypassing the system or taking the pipeline out of service.

The recommended solution was STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES’ StrongPIPE® V-Wrap™ Carbon Fiber system – the only approach that allowed the pipe to stay in service during repairs while also providing a 100-year service life.

STRUCTURAL’s scope included welding seven external termination steel collars during a 36-hour shutdown window and reconfiguring existing pipe protrusions. The team then applied the external CFRP system and finished with a protective coating. By combining advanced welding techniques with CFRP application, STRUCTURAL strengthened the vital pipeline, eliminating the risk of failure and ensuring uninterrupted service. The renewal surpassed long-term reliability goals and helps SVCW continue to sustainably protect public health and the environment.
