A solid generator foundation is necessary for the efficient operation of a hydroelectric generator. A generator at a Southern dam had been out of service for 10 to 15 years and needed rehabilitation. This included mechanical and electrical repairs, as well as concrete repairs.

STRUCTURAL was selected for the concrete repairs because of our expertise and ability to implement an Investigate-Design-Build (IDB) approach. To support this effort, STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES was brought onto the team to conduct a thorough assessment of the concrete foundation, which revealed the need to replace twelve soleplates.

The repair process involved removing concrete surrounding the stator frame, grout removal, and pouring the new soleplates in place. With multiple repairs occurring simultaneously, effective collaboration was key. To ensure a smooth execution, a phased repair plan including five mobilizations was developed.

The successful communication between teams, coupled with the efficient use of the IDB approach, allowed the project to be completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
