Hollywood City Hall, a prominent four-story government building, faced significant concrete deterioration of its exterior, prompting the need for urgent repairs. With plans to relocate to a new facility within the next 5 to 8 years, the City sought a solution that would ensure the building’s safety and functionality during the interim period.

In collaboration with the engineering team, STRUCTURAL performed acoustic emission testing to identify areas in need of repair. Adopting a design-build approach, the team carried out comprehensive concrete restoration on key exterior structural elements, including columns, walls, and parapets, in addition to stucco and painting repairs.

During the repair process, the condition of three major columns turned out to be more deteriorated than initially anticipated. By using an innovative repair strategy, the team was able to avoid costly shoring while still achieving effective repairs.

The project was successfully completed on budget and on schedule. As a unique highlight, the City enlisted STRUCTURAL’s help in locating a time capsule embedded within the building’s walls, adding a historical tough to the restoration effort.
