Shotcrete Silo Repair
- Used Investigate-Design-Build approach
- Completed repairs ahead of schedule
- Specialty Contractor: STRUCTURAL
- Engineer of Record: STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES
A cement production facility in the Western United States had widespread concrete deterioration on the inside of a 40-feet diameter silo that stood 87-feet high. The falling concrete and rebar was contaminating the product within the silo disrupting operations and product quality.
Using an Investigate-Design-Build (IDB) approach, STRUCTURAL was able to complete the repairs within a tight timeframe during a planned outage. A condition assessment, repair methodology development, and engineering were performed by STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES, a licensee of STRUCTURAL. The repair scope included demolishing the deteriorated concrete, shotcrete installation on the interior walls, and development and implementation of a steel wear plate to prevent future deterioration.
The comprehensive solution and repairs were completed ahead of schedule, on budget and with zero safety incidents.
