Soil Stabilization of Chlorinator Structure
- Implemented the Investigate, Design, Build approach
- Repairs successfully reduced the levels of vibration
- Project was completed on schedule and on budget
Location:
- Gulf Coast
Project Team:
- General Contractor: STRUCTURAL
- Engineer of Record: STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES
A chlorinator structure in a Gulf Coast chemical plant was vibrating beyond its existing design perimeters causing structural damage and unexpected downtime. Supported by four footings, the soil beneath was weak and led to unwanted movement of the structure.
Using an Investigate-Design-Build approach, STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES performed a condition assessment to determine the root cause and level of damage along with a design feasibility study. STRUCTURAL, an exclusive licensee, drilled over 8-feet below the structure through multiple layers of concrete and soil followed by grout injection.
Repairs were completed on budget and on schedule and greatly reduced the levels of vibration.
