Below Grade Waffle Slab Ceiling Repair

A waffle slab ceiling structure and main structural elements, including columns, in the basement of a meat processing and packaging facility was showing signs of deterioration due to the harsh environment the structures are located. To keep the plant operational, immediate repairs needed to take place.

STRUCTURAL was hired to perform the repairs based on previous experience with the client and knowledge of concrete repairs. The team performed an investigation of the existing condition of the structure to determine the repair areas.

Deterioration of waffle ceiling structure and columns
Project has been completed thus far with zero safety incidents

A waffle slab ceiling structure and main structural elements, including columns, in the basement of a meat processing and packaging facility was showing signs of deterioration due to the harsh environment the structures are located. To keep the plant operational, immediate repairs needed to take place.

STRUCTURAL was hired to perform the repairs based on previous experience with the client and knowledge of concrete repairs. The team performed an investigation of the existing condition of the structure to determine the repair areas. Repairs included half stem, full stem, partial stem and flange repairs of the waffle ceiling structure, partial depth column repair, full replacement of another column, and coating of all exposed concrete surfaces. STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES’ V-Wrap^TM Carbon Fiber (CFRP) System was used to wrap a new column shell that replaced a deteriorated column.

The project has been completed thus far with zero safety incidents.
