After an expansion of an ammonia unit, a chemical plant was taking the necessary precautions to avoid exposure to harsh chemicals. The client tasked STRUCTURAL to provide chemical resistant coating and joint sealing of a concrete containment area that had potential exposure to nitric acid.
If exposed to these harsh chemicals, the plant could result in loss of containment, leading to an environmental incident that could lead to loss of time, production and costs.
Project Overview
After an expansion of an ammonia unit, a chemical plant was taking the necessary precautions to avoid exposure to harsh chemicals. The client tasked STRUCTURAL to provide chemical resistant coating and joint sealing of a concrete containment area that had potential exposure to nitric acid. If exposed to these harsh chemicals, the plant could result in loss of containment, leading to an environmental incident that could lead to loss of time, production and costs.
Overall, STRUCTURAL completed over 20,000SF of coating and joint sealing work within the containment area, sump, trench and pedestals. For the containment area, the team began with a concrete surface preparation using an abrasive blast substrate. They then added multiple layers of chemical resistant coating.
Although the project was conducted during the Winter months, making conditions more difficult for coating applications, the job was completed on time with zero safety incidents.
